What we do

Play, all day

Sports, crafts, games, music and trips — a full programme from morning to home time, with something for every age. Doors open at 9.30am and the day finishes at 3.30pm, and no two days are the same: trips out on the buses, visiting activities on site, and the old favourites that come back every year because the children ask for them.

Three divisions

Children are placed by age into one of three divisions, each with its own area of the site, its own team of volunteers and its own programme of trips and activities.

Infants Shield Logo

Infants — ages 4 to 7

Smaller groups, a gentler pace and softer trips out, for children who may be away from home for the first time.

Major League Logo

Major League — ages 8 to 11

Our biggest division, with the fullest programme — a trip out most days and the big on-site events in between.

Teenz Logo

Teenz — ages 12 to 14

More independence and bigger adventures, from Manhunt to a day at scout camp — and the first step towards volunteering.

On-site favourites

Between the trips out, the site itself is the attraction — and these are the events and places the children come back for year after year.

Everyone included

We are proud to support a wide range of needs wherever we possibly can — including limited one-to-one support for children who need it. When you register ensure you tell us as much information as possible so we can ensure a positive Playscheme experience.

GOOD TO KNOW

When you register ensure you tell us as much information as possible so we can ensure a positive Playscheme experience.

Run by volunteers

300+ volunteers give up their summer each year — group leaders, key workers, workshop leaders, site team. Every volunteer is trained and DBS-checked, every group has an experienced leader, and everyone is a volunteer.

Remarkable value

The scheme is not free, but it is heavily subsidised by our fundraising and supporters. The fee covers a full week of activities, trips and outings — remarkable value for what is included.
